HOME CARE ASSOCIATION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE RECOGNIZES FRONTLINE CAREGIVER --- Catherine Bishop, LNA of the Year
CONCORD, N.H., June 5, 2008—The Home Care Association of New Hampshire named Catherine Bishop of Lancaster Home Care Nursing Assistant of the Year at the annual New Hampshire Nursing Assistant Day. The event took place on the State House lawn in Concord on June 5, 2008.
Bishop and dozens of other licensed nursing assistants were recognized for compassionately and selflessly devoting their lives to the care of others, and improving the quality of life for the individuals they care for every day. Governor John Lynch issued a proclamation in honor of the event.
Cathy Bishop, an LNA with Weeks Medical Center Home Health Services, was honored for her positive energy, soothing demeanor, and ability to bring comfort and calm to those she cares for. Cathy has worked for Weeks for four years and is often requested by new patients. “To say that Cathy is compassionate seems inadequate, as often she has tears in her eyes as she talks about her patients,” states Debbie Perry, RN, clinical nurse manager for Weeks Home Health. Cathy is reliable and trustworthy, and the quality of care she delivers to patients is extraordinary. She has been known to visit a patient in the morning to provide assistance and go back again on her own time in the evening with food because she was concerned about the patient’s well-being. Her holistic approach, encouragement, and sincerity give her patients the support and care they need during a difficult time. “Cathy truly embodies the essence of this honorary title. She has a heart ‘as big as Texas,’” adds Perry.
This exceptional event is sponsored by the Home Care Association of New Hampshire, New Hampshire Association of Counties/County Nursing Homes, New Hampshire Association of Residential Care Homes, New Hampshire Health Care Association, and New Hampshire Hospital Association. These groups formed an alliance in 2000 to pay annual tribute to the valuable people who care for those in need. The sponsors solicit nominations from the state’s home care agencies, public and private nursing and residential care facilities, and hospitals. They select one individual to represent each group as “LNA of the Year” based on compelling stories of kindness and caring.
Formed in 1974, the Home Care Association of New Hampshire membership includes both not-for-profit and proprietary agencies located in New Hampshire and neighboring states that are licensed to provide home health services in New Hampshire. Member agencies provide services for thousands of New Hampshire residents of all ages who are recovering from surgery, injury or illness, have chronic or terminal illnesses, or other conditions needing support at home.
